At 35, shy MIRANDA's life could use a makeover. She feels lost, pain and timid - overwhelmed by the trials of her day-to-day existence in California. As her wedding to BRIAN, 35, draws near, Miranda is doing her best to cope with the remnants of her relationship with her critical and estranged mother, BARBARA, and the forceful will of her sister GLORIA, 40. Just when it seems the family tension couldn't get any thicker, BARBARA is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, leaving her only a few months to live. Miranda is pressured to put her life on hold and take care of her ailing mother in Louisiana. The crisis puts a strain on her relationship with Brain, leaving Miranda lonely and wishing for an ally. But all that changes when fate takes a hand.
